Guys on Prep Question???

Just curious here about how many guys in here who are on Prep now were bare-backing BEFORE they started on the meds and how many were not enjoying anal pleasures before OR were only fucking SAFE??  Are you having more or less sex now?  As a guy who has been POZ for 30 years (on meds for past 28) I'm still having a difficult time finding bottoms to play with raw!

Possibly the statistics have something to do with it?

- More than 1.1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV today, but 1 in 7 of them don’t know it.

Thank you for the numbers- I understand that part- I'm wondering- on an individual basis- if men who were already having raw sex and when on Prep are having it more often, and if the same is true of men who were having safe-sex who went on Prep- if their sexual activities increased> wondering if the use of Prep is increasing the amount of raw sex- man-to-man??

There's still a stigma. I have avoided people who were I knew were poz, and even people who were undetectable, mostly for superstitious reasons. Like if I'm in a lightning-proof suit, I'm still going to avoid lightning, even if I know there's only a .001% chance it'll actually hurt me. It's not logical, but I think it's understandable.

That said, as education about PrEP goes up, this stigma will slowly fade. A porn star recently publicized the tape he made bare with a poz co-star, so demonstrate how safe the PrEP was.

I let any guy fuck bare who wants to.  Prep just made it safer.  Even with lube the condoms burn my hole.  Not being a large guy or even avaerabe sized guy probably has something to do with it.

PrEP therapy is designed for a bottom to be able to bare-back with a greatly reduced chance of becoming infected. SO, if you are 100% bottom, there is a good chance that you could take poz-loads from men who are consciously NOT on HIV meds OR the 20 - 30% of gay/bi men who are infected with HIV and do not know it- and are spreading the disease w/out knowing.

IF you are truly vers, as your profile says, and you fuck a HIV+ bottom who is NOT on meds, there is still a chance you could get infected.  Bottom line- if you are bare-backing and you do not want AIDS- you should think about PrEP as a solution.

Nothing is 100% safe. Even crossing the street could see you getting hit by a car.

PrEP is more about greatly reducing the risk of contracting the virus. It's also an Anti-Retroviral medication, and as such, needs to be taken religiously, otherwise it doesn't work and you could become resistant or even immune to the meds (think of it like Antibiotics, and the problems we're having with infections like bronchitis becoming resistant to certain antibiotics).

In the end each person has to take responsibility for the risks they are prepared to take, and not expect or rely on anyone else to cover for them. The greatest risk for getting HIV is getting fucked raw in the ass by someone with HIV, who may of course not know they have HIV. Someone who knows they have HIV may in good faith assure you they are not infectious, because their HIV is successfully suppressed by their treatment. You will of course only have their word for it. PREP, reliably taken, greatly reduces your risk, but may not eliminate it altogether. It also does not protect against other stds, such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, hepatitis, warts, herpes... all of which are potentially present among people who have sex with other people. Reliable use of condoms and avoiding rimming can reduce the risk of getting some of these infections, since condoms provide a physical barrier and not rimming reduces the chance of contact with anal products. Monitoring your own sexual health by regular contact with a medical facility is also a good idea. These comments do not answer the question originally posed by the person who started this topic. But they do seem a relevant reminder of the basic issues we should all keep in mind.
